This session will explore non-trivial ConfigMgr site and hierarchy deployment including boundaries, boundary groups, secondary sites, remote site systems, cross-forest support, and how to support managed systems within a DMZ or any type of zone where network traffic is strictly controlled. Specific emphasis will be placed on how managed clients locate and use the various roles within a ConfigMgr site as this truly dictates role placement and site and hierarchy design. The session will cover the various decisions points, implications, and caveats of the different possibilities and various roles as well as provide guidance, "gotchas"?, and real-world knowledge from real-world customers and implementations of ConfigMgr. Full explanations will be provided of the inner workings through demos, log dumps, some behind the scenes knowledge, and maybe even a network trace or two.
- Role placement and usage beyond the basics
- Hierarchy considerations for non-trivial environments
- Internals beyond what's documented for complex environments
